Export - Import Configurations in OpenERP v7 !

Hello readers,

As an OpenERP user or developer may some time need to data import and export possibly in Migration. There are several methods in OpenERP to server the purpose. In OpenERP 7, data import and export happen in client side so you do not need to have technical knowledge. If you are able to collect the data in a spreadsheet without much efforts;  ‘CSV Import’ will be a better solution for data import. Similarly data can also be exported easily as a CSV files. The CSV file format is a text format compatible with most spreadsheet programs (such as
OpenOffice Calc and Microsoft Excel), and is easily editable as a worksheet. The first line contains the name of the fields in the form. All the subsequent lines are data, aligned in their respective columns.

Here you can see how to configure IMPORT,EXPORT your data in OpenERP latest version 7.0. The importation of data into OpenERP has been completely redesigned as to enable much easier and transparent data import operations. Allow to IMPORT data you should unable “Allow users to import data from CSV files”

This option is in Setting -> Configuration -> General settings menu as shown below:

After enabling the “Allow users to import data from CSV files” option, the import option is available next to every create button from list view.

If you want to export the data, the option you can find in list view ‘More’ option.

How to Import and Export ?

Export :
Its a very simple to Export data in OpenERP 7.0, you just select the data and click on export, open new wizard, you will select the fields that you want to export and click on export to file,
after Export it will create a .CSV file. Export option cannot be disabled by any configuration but you have to write a web module for this.

Import :
First you have to select data to import, after selecting data, you can preview right away, thus resulting in a significant gain in time. In previous versions of OpenERP, you had to reiterate the import when the initial one did not meet your criteria. Now after the system analyses the file content and provide indications in case of error. In case of errors in the original file formatting, OpenERP proposes you alternatives and solutions on how to structure your document.

OpenERP 7.0 version gives more file formating options when data importing.

import data form .CSV file.

NOTE:

You must include every field that is colored blue because those fields are required (unless you know that they get filled by default with an appropriate value), and also any other field that is important to you.

Thanks, Hope this post will be helpful to you.

Serpent Consulting Services

Lectures on IT, Management and behavioral Science at SerpentCS

We are the strong believers that More We Discuss, More ideas evolve, More we come closer to everyone and more we grow eventually.

At SerpentCS, we took the initiative to invite experts to share their valuable input with our employees. It will help them to cope up with global trends.

Management and IT

The First Lecture was about ‘Management & IT’,  was delivered by Kunal Mojidra who is an Assistant Professor at a Management College, Narmada. He agreed to present his insights at a very short notice. He has been generating MBA talents since last 3 years or so.

Employees were looking very much involved and interested in the interactive session. Kunal shared the strategy and Management lessons by giving some interesting examples of how well-known companies have been managing their services, how they faced failures, how they came out better and how they stood strong in their market positions.

We then organized a debate session with 2 teams on the topic ‘Engineering Or Management?’. That Group Discussion brought out a lot more abilities of each of the staff member of speaking, convincing and fun factor.

After the presentation, there was a discussion on why soft-skills are necessary in today’s professional environment. Senior Staff of SerpentCS also gave some useful tips that can be helpful in employee’s personal and professional growth.

Management of SerpentCS concluded that both the wings, Engineering and Management are important for an organization. When managed well both of them, Success is assured.

Behavioral Science

After the great feedback from the employees, SerpentCS management is encouraged to organize more experts lectures.

We had called up an expert from software industry. Our expert, Mitesh Soni, has experience for over 5 years in the field. He has been part of 3 different organizations. Last Saturday, he was our expert who shared remarkable points in Organizational Behaviour. It was a wonderful experience for all.

After the very interactive, enjoyable and a thought-provoking session, Mitesh Soni was given a medal and a memento.

Mitesh shared his feedback:

It was 2 AM in the morning on 1st June, 2013 when I came to know that I need to take one expert lecture on behavioral aspect of a professional; I politely convinced Jay vora that it would be sharing of an experience which I have gained in past few years and not the “expert lecture”.

When conversation started at SerpentCS, I could see exuberance and liveliness of young students who might have joined months or year back. Youth comes with uncontrolled energy and often we all young people learn with our daily experiences on how to control our energy in right direction.

We discussed how knowledge we possess becomes of double value when we have the opportunity of sharing it with others. There was a time in between where I learnt couple of things from the young professionals and they provided me various hints on which I should move forward which is not usual in this kind of discussions. Employees of SerpentCS were agile in nature and hence serious lecture was transformed into a creative discussion and we didn’t even realize it.

It was a pleasure to share experience with them on how teamwork is important, how your role is not limited to a task assigned to you when you are working in a team. We emphasized on the communication part and we all agreed that if you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams. It is possible to be competitive and still respect each others’ abilities for a common goal – that is success of an organization.

Moral of the Conversation: Remember, there are no mistakes, only lessons. Observe yourself, trust your choices, and everything is possible. You are an observer of what you observe. Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value hence desire more, help others; emotions, trust, communication, and respect are influential factors in success of a team and organization.

It was an experience which I will cherish for rest of life. All the best SerpentCS! Be a “Game Changer” in Open Source world!

We want our employees to be Global Citizens. We will groom them to be ready to take any challenge. Employees are our priced asset. Get ready Serpents, Way to go.

Thanks,
Serpent Consulting Services.

SerpentCS Releases Mass Editing for Tryton, GNU Health!

Dears,

As it is said by someone,’Never Leave a chance to Thank anyone’. Let SerpentCS take a privilege to thank the Tryton community for keeping the world of OpenSource Alive.

Here we are doing a little and attempt to contribute to Tryton, a three-tiers high-level general purpose application platform under the license GPL-3 written in Python and using PostgreSQL as database engine. Tryton is spreading its leg smartly among the OpenSource lovers. Tryton has its own foundation now and going stronger and stronger with each release with the recent release has been Version 2.8. The Tryton community is backed up by highly qualified and big players of OpenSource ERPs.

This is also an aim to let you know about GNU Health, a free Health and Hospital Information System developed with the base of Tryton. SerpentCS has a privilege of being a partner, the only one in the Asia Region.

Here we represent one of the most useful features in ERPs, called Mass Editing. The aim is simply to edit/remove some values of more than one records at the same time, on the fly.

Here you can find the Mass Editing module and the document for the how-to of the module! We are not yet experts in Tryton programming, but a good beginning is half done! We will wait for your feedback and hope to get this contribution added in upcoming version.

More screens can be seen in the document as mentioned above.

How to run 2 or more OpenERP Servers on same machine?

1+ OpenERP Servers on same machine

Hello Readers,

If you are an OpenERP Developer Or you might wish to run OpenERP Test, Dev, Production servers from the same machine…Don’t get stuck! In such a situation, we have an option to do this in simple manner. This article gives you a solution to use 2 or more OpenERP server instances running at a same time.
Simple solution is to use different ports for all the server instances you wish to start.

Let’s see the example:, We want to run OpenERP 6.1 and OpenERP 7.0 at the same time.

One server is OpenERP 6.1 and second server is OpenERP 7.0.

OpenERP 6.1 server start with like this:

After Hit the “ENTER”, the 6.1 server will start.

This is about the simple thing to run a single server but when we want to run another server on same machine we need to use different port. second server of OpenERP 7.0

Start as below screen-shot.

OpenERP 7.0 server with different port. Added –xmlrpc-port=1800

After hit the “ENTER”, the OpenERP 7.0 server will start on 1800, with localhost:/1800

Here we started a second server of OpenERP 7.0 with port number of 1800 using  ‘–xmlrpc-port=1800′.

Both the server started on a same machine at same time.
Adding a trivial case where you wish to hide databases of one server to another server even the machine is same. The simple solution is to use different database users for each Server Instance.

For more Information you have “–help” command, and you will get more options. In any Case for OpenERP Functional and/or Technical Training

SerpentCS will prove as the best choice for you. See our Customer feedbacks for OpenERP Services.

Thanks,

Hope this Post will help you for your OpenERP Implementations.

SerpentCS analyzes that United States is Moving to OpenSource !

Hello,

Since last 3 weeks, Husen Daudi and Jay Vora are observing a growth in the no. of visits of our blogs and website.

1. SerpentCS’ Blog !
2. Husen’s blog !
3. Jay’s Blog !

Serpent Consulting Services works on various OpenSource Products including OpenERP, GNUHealth, SugarCRM, vTiger, Alfresco, Liferay and Tryton.
It’s usually seen that Europe and Asia have been the only continents using OpenSource products and tools. But what recent results have shown to us, is very merry-making to the OpenSource projects, editors, communities, integrators, implementors, service providers and developers. United states of America which is well-known for the usage of Proprietary softwares has been looking for OpenSource Solutions.

Following are the images proving it.

Visits on our OpenERP Blogs recently by Day, week and Month.

By Day

SerpentCS : OpenERP Visits per day

By Week

SerpentCS : OpenERP Visits by week

By Month

SerpentCS : OpenERP visits per month

The possible reasons are the searches made on search engines for the search topics as:
1. Opensource benefits.
2. Low cost and effective ERP solutions.
3. OpenERP Training.
4. OpenERP Technical and Functional Training.
5. How to Learn OpenERP.
6. OpenERP Support and OpenERP Migration
7. OpenERP version 7 easy to use.

United states of America is an Economical and Technological Super power. Getting motivation for OpenSource from that part of world is a great news for Opensource believers. We don’t mean bad for proprietary softwares, but the competition will be tough and outcome will be the quality of products, quality of services.

You would be amazed to know why Cisco, skype, Teamviewer, etc. are enemies for many Airlines now a days. For an unbelievable reasons the airlines of all parts of the world are angry due to the services provided by Online meeting tools as mentioned above. The simple reason is you get everything at your screenstep (doorstep, usually used). Without buying the expensive tickets, you can enjoy whatever you wish to learn from home and that too at your desired time. This is the savings of time and money.

We at SerpentCS have been offering the remote support, trainings and development assistance for many United States’ software firms for Liferay, OpenERP and SugarCRM. OpenERP Offshore and Trainings are among the hot trends!

GOD bless opensource world and lets welcome United states of America.

Attrs in OpenERP Explained in detail - Serpent Consulting Services!

As an OpenERP Developer, you might come across such a situation where you would like to make one or some fields readonly or mandatory or hide (‘invisible’ in OpenERP terminology) based on the values of other fields.

Well, then you are getting OpenERP Training just by reading this as the solutions here are explained by well versed OpenERP Trainers.

The solution here to your situation is ‘attrs’.

The attrs is an element in OpenERP which is responsible to alter the attributes of a field, not the value. The ‘attrs’ attribute can be used to dynamically change the attributes of view components based on the value of other fields. Buttons in OpenERP use states attribute for dynamic visibility, they too can be used with attrs. It can be used on field, page, group, button and notebook tags. Remember, there is no RPC call ever made because this is a pure client side attribute at view level.

The structure of ‘attrs‘ is a dictionary carrying the key as the client attribute and value as a set of domain(s),the keys could be:
  • readonly
  • invisible
  • required

Structure : attrs=”{‘attribute’:Domain which is if true, the element will wear the new property ‘attribute’}”

Syntax of attrs :
attrs=
”{‘readonly’:[('value','=','balance')],  ‘invisible’: ['|',('service','in',['OpenERP Support','OpenERP Training']),(‘company’,'=’,'SerpentCS’)]}”
/>
Result : If the domains are satisfied, the field ‘value_amount’ will be readonly in 1st case and will be hidden on 2nd case.
attrs=”{‘required’: [('parent_id', '=', False)]}”
/>
You can use any domains here but make sure there will be no server side calls made. So better to be limited at view level.

Attrs is reflected at view level per record, and hence that can never be applied at List view/ Tree view level.

Hope this makes you hungry to learn more about the beauty of OpenObject Framework. You can take the advantages of learning this greatly with us by attending our trainings.

Thanks,
Serpent Consulting Services

Know Fabien Pinckaers, the CEO of OpenERP SA

He who has an Inspiring journey, attitude, gratitude, patience and leading skills !

I might be wrong, but only he can correct…Fabien Pinckaers completes 11 years of Journey with OpenERP!!!

He always introduced to us(all colleagues in a similar manner):“Hi, this is Fabien, CEO of Tiny sprl”.

I remember when I first talked to Fabien Sir (In India, every senior is addressed as Sir), I guess I still have that chat saved. It was 17 September 2007 or so. I was given a task and Dhara Shah helped me accomplish it. When he visited India, He was surprised to see it and asked me “is that only 2 months have you joined?”

I am not sure, but he started in March 2002 I suppose. He started working on Auction project probably for his Father’s business. Later on he realized he should make it bigger, an ERP and it started as TinyERP. (I’m writing here based on what I’ve heard, but seems True).

Not to miss, Fabien sir never made anyone touch ‘Auction’ module doing more changes…!!! :)

Fabien Pinckaers make programs for businesses since the age of 13. Now at the age of 30, he developed his company, Tiny Sprl. It was established in 2002 while pursuing his studies in civil engineering at UCL (Louvain-la-Neuve). The story is beautiful and has only just begun. The history of this company is making on the cover page of the magazine “Trends Tendances” titled as “New Bill Gates is Belgian”, dated Thursday 16 June 09.

He has said:

I needed to change the world. I wanted to … You know how it is when you are young; you have big dreams, a lot of energy and naïve stupidity. My dream was to lead the enterprise management market with a fully open source software. (I also wanted to get 100 employees before 30 years old with a self-financed company but I failed this one by a few months).

To fuel my motivation, I had to pick someone to fight against. In business, it’s like a playground. When you arrive in a new school, if you want to quickly become the leader, you must choose the class bully, the older guy who terrorises small boys, and kick his butt in front of everyone. That was my strategy with SAP, the enterprise software giant.

So, in 2005, I started to develop the TinyERP product, the software that (at least in my mind) would change the enterprise world. While preparing for the “day of the fight” in 2006, I bought the SorrySAP.com domain name. I put it on hold for 6 years, waiting for the right moment to use it. I thought it would take 3 years to deprecate a 77 billion dollars company just because open source is so cool. Sometimes it’s better for your self-motivation not to face reality…

To make things happen, I worked hard, very hard. I worked 13 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no vacations for 7 years. I lost friendships and broke up with my girlfriend in the process (fortunately, I found a more valuable wife now. I will explain later why she is worth 1 million EUR :) .

Three years later, I discovered you can’t change the world if you are “tiny”. Especially if the United States is part of this world, where it’s better to be a BigERP, rather than a TinyERP. Can you imagine how small you feel in front of Danone’s directors asking; “but why should we pay millions of dollars for a tiny software?” So, we renamed TinyERP to OpenERP.

As we worked hard, things started to evolve. We were developing dozens of modules for OpenERP, the open source community was growing and I was even able to pay all employees’ salaries at the end of the month without fear (which was a situation I struggled with for 4 years).

In 2010, we had a 100+ employees company selling services on OpenERP and a powerful but ugly product. This is what happens when delivering services to customers distracts you from building an exceptional product.
It was time to do a pivot in the business model.
